About the Neighborhood Development Corporation (NDC)
The Neighborhood Development Corporation (NDC) is a non-profit, community-focused organization that revitalizes distressed neighborhoods and encourages neighborhood sustainability. The NDC fulfills its mission by offering commercial and residential options through building rehabilitation, new construction, and in-fill development.
The NDC was created in 1999 as part of a 28E Agreement between the City of Des Moines, Polk County, The Des Moines Development Corporation, and the Federal Home Loan Bank. Currently, the NDC’s service areas include the following neighborhoods in Des Moines:
- River Bend
- King Irving
- Drake
- Sherman Hill
- Woodland Heights
- Capitol East
- Fairgrounds
Since the organization’s founding, NDC has helped over 20 businesses with planning and/or startup ventures in the Des Moines area. Funded in part by the City of Des Moines, the NDC leveraged $5 million dollars into $18 million dollars worth of development over a 5 year period. The NDC also works in conjunction with the Community Housing Development Corporation to develop projects that offer both residential and commercial opportunities for the people of Des Moines and Polk County.
Most importantly, NDC is changing the way people view these once deteriorating neighborhoods. People traveling along neighborhood streets into downtown Des Moines are now beginning to see vitality and the market opportunities in these areas. Through commercial and residential development, the NDC is helping uplift and stabilize the community.
The NDC offers both leasing options for potential business owners and investment opportunities for development firms. If you or your company are interested in more information about investing with the NDC, please contact the main office at: 515-244-8600.
